One group is trying to put a stop to George Zimmerman's upcoming celebrity boxing match.
A petition has been posted on the White House's petition page calling for the bout's cancellation. According to the document, the entire idea of the event is to "use racial tensions to lure people" into purchasing tickets.
The petition also claims that celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman "has been known for fixing fights" and "bypassing state requirements" to obtain fighters' licenses. So far, the petition has more than five-thousand signatures.
Rapper DMX has reportedly signed on as Zimmerman's opponent in the March 1st match, however, a rep for the emcee tells Allhiphop.com that the bout "is not officially confirmed."
Apparently, DMX had been chosen from a pool of 15-thousand applicants who wanted to go toe-to-toe against the man acquitted of murdering Florida teen Trayvon Martin.
The rep adds that DMX has promised to beat up Zimmerman, but "no contract or paperwork has been signed or agreed to yet." If and when an agreement is reached, the rep says DMX will release an official statement.
