Actors Meagan Good and Jonathan Majors have been granted Guinean citizenship after tracing their ancestry to the West African nation through DNA testing, per the Associated Press.

On Friday (January 9), Good and Majors received their citizenship during a private ceremony in Guinea's capital, Conakry. Photos released by the government showed the couple attending the event alongside senior officials. They are expected to tour cultural and historic sites across the country during their visit.

“We think that you are among the worthy sons and daughters of this Guinea,” Djiba Diakité, chief of staff to President Mamadi Doumbouya, said in a statement. “You represent our country, the red-yellow-green flag, all over the world.”

Good and Majors' citizenship recognition comes amid Guinea’s growing efforts to reconnect with descendants of enslaved Africans across the diaspora. Similar initiatives have been undertaken in recent years by countries including Ghana and Benin, which have offered citizenship or residency to African Americans seeking to reconnect with their ancestral roots.

Majors, once considered one of Hollywood’s rising stars, was arrested in 2023 and convicted on assault and harassment charges involving a former girlfriend. The conviction led Marvel Studios to cut ties with the actor, ending his role as Kang the Conqueror. Majors' previously delayed film Magazine Dreams was released last year after being shelved amid legal proceedings.

Good, a longtime actor known for roles in film and television, reportedly began dating Majors in 2023 and was frequently present during his court appearances. The couple got engaged in 2024 and married last year in a private ceremony.

Guinea has been under military rule since a 2021 coup led by Gen. Mamadi Doumbouya, who was declared the winner of a presidential election last month following a vote criticized by opposition groups and international observers.
