Most of New Orleans is still without power as the community continues to recover from Hurricane Ida. Now, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Southeast Louisiana as temperatures and humidity are expected to rise, per FOX 8 Live.
The advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday (August 31 and September 1), as temperatures his the 90s and heat index values are expected to reach over 100 degrees. The high heat and lack of power could cause some residents to feel ill.
The official Twitter account for National Weather Service-New Orleans suggested ways to keep cool during the hot temperatures as most of the city is without power, including standing in shaded areas, cover the outside of your windows with something reflective, create paper fans, and minimize outside activity during peak temperatures of the afternoon.
The NWS also reminded residents to stay hydrated and to pay attention to any boil water advisories for your area.
"Heat has a [cumulative] impact on a person so you may not feel it today, but it will wear on you over the coming days," the NWS said in a tweet. "Recovery is a [marathon] not a sprint."
