Bryson Tiller is opening up about his fallout with Drake after he didn't sign with OVO.
On Wednesday, June 5, the Grammy-nominated singer sat down with The Breakfast Club to talk about his recent self-titled album and world tour. During their discussion, DJ Envy asked why he decided not to sign with Drake's OVO Sound before he ultimately went with RCA Records. Tiller said he wanted to join Drizzy's label and Drake told him he wanted to make it happen. The "Don't" crooner described the moment when he reached out to the Toronto native to discuss the deal. Unfortunately, he never heard back from Drizzy.
"I texted him like 'Yo man they got me up here in New York. I really want to sign to OVO I just hope we can have a conversation about it. He just never texted me back, and I was like I guess that's everything I need to know right there."
It's not the first time Tiller has shared his story about Drake's deal. However, Bryson said he hasn't spoken to Drake since that day. Elsewhere in their conversation, Envy also brought up the major gap in releases following his 2017 album True To Self. Tiller revealed his grandmother's death in 2020 sparked a lot of uncertainty about himself.
"That was what made me be like 'Man what am I doing?'" Tiller explained. "Because I made her so many promises, like, she used to be like 'Baby can you do this for me, can you do that?' and I was just like 'I don't know.'"
"I remember I bought her a used car just because I was nervous about the future," he continued. "I was like 'I don't know what's going to happen.' I don't even believe in myself no more. I don't think I'm going to make music no more."
Tiller bounced back with his A N N I V E R S A R Y album the same year he lost his grandma. He also dropped A Different Christmas a year later and teamed up with various artists for collaborations like Lola Brooke's "You" and "Gotta Move On" with Diddy. Tiller is considering another break to focus on his upcoming video game, which is set to debut in 2025.
