When it comes to Regina Hallâs career, sheâs built a legacy rooted in authenticity, range, and undeniable charm. Somehow, in every role â from comedic to dramatic âshe brings audiences in and makes them feel like they know each character. Her talent, versatility, and relatability make her a standout in every project she touches. But off-screen? Sheâs just as funny, grounded, and refreshingly real. The kind of star who knows the power of a good playlist, a great paper towel, and the perfect electric slide moment. Case in point: her latest partnership with Bounty.
âI love paper towels, we love paper towels,â Hall told me with a laugh. âAnd my mom always used Bounty just because it was thicker. Itâs funny because I feel like I'm saying that in an ad, but it's all true.â Sheâs not kidding. Hallâs partnership with Bounty feels like less of a celebrity-brand deal and more of a natural alignment, especially for anyone who grew up in a Black household where using too many paper towels could get you the look. âYou know how your mom always tells you âdonât waste paper towels and because she used Bounty, we didnât⊠You dried your hands, you could wipe up something [all with one]. So the partnership actually made sense. Because it was very authentic to me, and to us.â
And sheâs right â the timing is perfect with it being the start of cookout season. âYou know people are going to need to clean up behind you,â Hall joked. âSo you got to get the good stuff.â
Naturally, the conversation turned to music â the key to any good summer function. Hall lit up when I asked her to give me her cookout playlist must-haves. âYou gotta have a little Frankie Beverly and Maze,â she said, without skipping a beat. âIâll take it back and go [with] a Patrice Rushen song too. Iâll go back to Will Smithâs Summertime... and I actually like Childish Gambinoâs Summertime Magic.â
The key to the perfect cookout playlist, she added, is balance. âIt canât just be for the aunties. You gotta sneak it in between songs so they donât notice right away,â she laughed. âYou want to have what she likes. You want to have it be something for everybody.â
That mixâ classic, but current and fun â feels like a perfect metaphor for Hallâs career. She's built a legacy of roles that stick with you: from belly-laughing comedies to heart-tugging dramas, her characters are etched in audiencesâ memories.
And sometimes, the music takes her back too. âAnytime I hear Candy, I go back to that [final Best Man] scene,â she said, recalling her role as Candace in the beloved 1999 film. âIt makes me think of that [time], and then it takes you to the âElectric Slide,â which takes you back to cookouts. Always doing the Electric Slide at cookouts.â

Of course, no Regina Hall conversation is complete without a mention of Brendaâher breakout character in Scary Movie. âPeople love Brenda,â she said, smiling when asked about the role she feels audiences have connected the most to. âI think itâs because theyâve seen her the most because she died and came back, died and came back.â She paused before adding, âI donât know if they are Brendas or if they know Brendas or if everybody has got a little bit of Brenda in them.â
As for Hall herself? âI resonate with all my characters,â she said. âNo matter how wild... Theyâre like your children. There is always a piece of you in them. Itâs like picking a favorite baby.â
Still, sheâs not done adding to her list of favorites. Hallâs been vocal about wanting to do Broadway, and itâs something sheâs actively working toward. âThatâs part of my dream. Itâs just been timing,â she said. âSo when the time is like muah, definitely going to do it with the right project.â
In the meantime, sheâs booked and busy with multiple new projects. âOne Battle After Another comes out the soonest, on September 26,â she said. âItâs a great cast... Chase Infiniti is in it â sheâs young and amazing. Teyana [Taylor] is not new, but itâs going to be exciting for people to see her in this role.â Hall also has her first animated feature,The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, and an upcoming comedy film, No Judgment Day, with Will Ferrell on the way. âA lot of good things coming up,â Hall said. âA lot of good things.â
