Viral petition to boycott NFL if Colin Kaepernick doesn't get signed garners tens of thousands of signatures
NFL training camps are underway around the nation and one of the league's most talented quarterbacks is still without a job.
Colin Kaepernick remains unsigned despite being healthy, and football fans are voicing their frustration. One group registered a petition on change.org, vowing to boycott the 2017 NFL season if the former San Fransisco 49ers quarterback does not play.
The 29-year-old became a symbol for racial justice in America when he refused to stand for the national anthem during the 2016 NFL season -- choosing instead to take a knee in silent protest. Kaepernick's anthem protest continued to make headlines throughout the season.
Owners and teams, including the Miami Dolphins who recently chose to bring Jay Culter out of retirement rather than sign Kaepernick, have been criticized by NFL players and fans for "blacklisting" Kaepernick as punishment for his controversial protest.
Fellow players have defended Kaepernick's abilities as a high-caliber option. Several Seattle Seahawks players have spoken out on the subject, including cornerback Richard Sherman, wide receiver Doug Baldwin and defensive end Michael Bennett.
