Southern Decadence

Aug. 31-Sept. 4 (Thursday-Monday), locations throughout the French Quarter.

Southern Decadence, the gigantic annual LGBT gathering sometimes called "Gay Mardi Gras," is expected to fill up the French Quarter

According to the Southern Decadence website, the Grand Marshals' Walking Parade forms Sept. 3  at 1 p.m. near the corner of Decatur and Barracks Streets. The glittering procession starts at 2 p.m. at the Golden Lantern bar at 1239 Royal St., ending at 4 p.m. near Bourbon and Dumaine Streets. See more on the event from reporter Doug MacCash here.

Freedom Fest

Sept. 3 (Sunday), Kenner Laketown (where Williams Boulevard meets Lake Pontchartrain)

The city of Kenner presents this Labor Day fest with a mix of local and national country music artists, including New Orleans entertainers Jenna Hunts and 90 Degrees West and national artists Maddie & Tae, who will close out the event. Click here for more 

Los Portenos Tango Brass Band

Sept. 1 (Friday), 7 p.m., Renaissance New Orleans Warehouse District Hotel, 700 Tchoupitoulas St.

Los PorteƱos Tango Brass Band will perform new arrangements of classic tangos, nuevo tango, and modern jazz. Local tango dancers Christine Morris and Ector Gutierrez will perform. All dancers are welcomed. See more details here.

Donations of canned goods and personal hygiene items will be accepted for donation to Second Harvest Food bank to assist flood victims in Louisiana and Texas.

Mannie Fresh and DJ Soul Sister: Body Rock

Boyfriend's Fifth Annual Birthday Extravaganza

Sept. 1 (Friday), 8 p.m., Joy Theater, 1200 Canal St.

The nerdish burlesque rapper will perform along with special guests Fleur de Tease, Kitten N' Lou, Madame Gandhi, Maggie Koerner, Alexis M Marceaux, Tif Lamson, Robin Barnes Music, Tasche de la Rocha, Ladies of Passion and the Camel Toe Lady Steppers. Free admission if you RSVP here.

Babycakes game benefiting the Innocence Project

Sept. 3 (Sunday), 6 p.m., Shrine on Airline, 6000 Airline Drive, Metairie.

The New Orleans Babycakes baseball team will play a game benefiting the Innocence Project New Orleans, which has 100 tickets to sell to benefit the organization's mission of freeing innocent prisoners, exposing injustice and preventing wrongful convictions.

Free Friday at Tipitina's with Big Sam

Sept. 1 (Friday), 10 p.m., Tipitina's, 501 Napoleon Ave.

Big Sam's Funky Nation and Miss Mojo perform at a free show presented by the Tipitina's Foundation. Must be 21 to enter.
