2018 Crescent City Classic Race Parking Instructions and Reminders

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of the 40th Crescent City Classic scheduled for Saturday, March 31. Throughout this event, the public is encouraged to be patient and prepared for delays by making transportation arrangements accordingly.

Starting Friday, March 30 at 11 p.m., Poydras Street from S. Claiborne Avenue to Loyola Avenue will be closed in advance of the race. NOPD officers will divert all traffic on Poydras Street from S. Claiborne Avenue to Loyola Avenue, including the areas surrounding the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sugar Bowl, W. Stadium and Dave Dixon Drives.

Race participants who are driving to the race are encouraged to park in downtown long term lots and use the shuttle system race organizers have arranged. The race course will become a no-parking zone beginning at midnight Friday evening. At that time, towing will begin along the course to allow for Crescent City Classic organizers to begin set-up for the race. Meters will be bagged and signs will be posted warning residents of the parking restrictions.

Parking enforcement personnel will be monitoring for illegal parking, including blocking hydrants, driveways and sidewalks, or parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop signs. Motorists are also reminded to park in the direction of travel on one-way streets, and with the right wheel to the curb on two-way streets.

In addition, RTA services, including bus service, may be interrupted during this event. Details on any route changes are available at www.norta.com.

Beginning at 8 a.m., the runners will depart from Poydras Street in front of the Mercedes Benz-Superdome, proceed river bound on Poydras Street (runners will use river bound Poydras Street only past Loyola Avenue) to Convention Center Boulevard, turn left onto Convention Center Boulevard, turn left on Canal Street, turn right on N. Peters Street to Decatur Street, turn left onto Esplanade Avenue and proceed lake bound on Esplanade Avenue to N. Carrollton Avenue/Wisner Boulevard, veer left on the traffic circle to N. About Crescent City Classic

The Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic 10k road race is held every year the Saturday before Easter Sunday. The Classic is locally produced, and is a great way to get in shape while having fun. The 10-kiometer course (6.2 miles) begins in Downtown News Orleans in front of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, runs through the historic French Quarter, and then all the way up tree-lined Esplanade Avenue to City Park where a huge concert festival is held immediately following the event for all the runners and walkers. The CCC is preceded by a large two-day Health & Fitness Expo, which is free and open to the public the Thursday and Friday prior to the Race.
