Um, I might be a little confused on this one, but then again I also get the point.
Apparently there is good reason that Pride parade organizers aren't really checking for a police presence at the upcoming parade this year. They are requesting that police officers wear "soft" uniforms, don't carry weapons or have official vehicles present. As a result, Aurora mayor and Illinois gubernatorial candidate Richard Irvin is boycotting the parade and withdrawing the city's float.
We're all pretty much aware of the stigma placed on police officers over recent years and there have been many reported instances of harassment and police brutality toward the LGBTQ+ community as well, so I get it. I see their point. I'll have to admit and it's very unfortunate that police presence can be a bit intimidating and give off a negative vibe at times.
The Aurora Pride Parade is scheduled for June 12.
