Winds Increase, But PTC Sixteen Isn't Nestor Just Yet

There were a number of changes with the 4 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center on Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen, but naming the system was not one of them.

Maximum winds increased to 40 miles per hour as the cyclone was moving north-northeast at 9 miles per hour.

The "center" of the system was moved to the northeast around more thunderstorm activity. However, the NHC noted in a discussion with the advisory, "...the system currently has neither sufficient convection or a well-enough defined center to be designated a tropical or subtropical cyclone."

Still, the NHC expects this system will become our next named storm Nestor by Friday.

A tropical storm warning is in effect from Grand Isle to the mouth of the Pearl River, including Lower Jefferson, Lower Plaquemines, and Lower St. Bernard parishes.
