NWS Confirms Tornado Touched Down In Lake Charles Wednesday

The National Weather Service is confirming the touchdown of a tornado in Lake Charles on Wednesday.

The agency says they're still trying to determine if the twister was a high-end EF-2 or a low-end EF-3, but they clocked maximum sustained winds at 130 mph.

The tornado tore through two south Lake Charles neighborhoods near the intersection of Nelson and Ham Reid roads.

The wind severely damaged some houses and blew down power lines, leaving more than 7,500 Entergy customers in the dark.
