TO KICK-OFF ANNUAL CREOLE TOMATO FESTIVAL & SUMMERTIME IN NEW ORLEANS
NEW ORLEANS - The French Market plans to celebrate the harvest season with new and old traditions this year: The French Market Inaugural Summer Harvest Gala will be held at the historic French Market on June 4th, the Wednesday prior to the 28th annual Creole Tomato Festival, from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

Sit down dinner under the French Market pavilion featuring live music by Creole String Beans and the return of the traditional auctioning off of the first case of Creole Tomatoes of the season!
Creole Tomato Festival Sponsor Abita Beer will be pairing their harvest beers (Abita Lemon Ale, Abita Amber, Abita Light, Abita Seersucker Summer Pilsner) with dishes created by a team of chefs including Justin Devillier, Executive Chef of La Petite Grocery and James Beard Award Nominee; Ryan Prewitt, Executive Chef of Peche Seafood Grill and James Beard Award Winner for Best Chef and Best New Restaurant; Bronwen Wyatt , Pastry Chef of La Petite Grocery and Jess Stokes, Pastry Chef of Maurepas Foods. Dishes will be served family-style following a cocktail reception featuring handcrafted cocktails by French Market neighbor Cane & Table. Guitarist virtuoso John Rankin will perform at the cocktail reception and Creole String Beans will perform during the dinner.

The French Market Creole Tomato Festival is the signature annual event of the French Market, designed to highlight the plentiful produce throughout the state, using one of locals' beloved produce items as its symbol.
"The Creole Tomato Festival is our opportunity to celebrate local growers and restaurants, as well as local musicians, artists, and all things homegrown in the rich cultural soil of Louisiana," said French Market Executive Director Jon Smith.
"The French Market holds such strong food memories and authenticity for those of us who prepare local food...creating a meal to enjoy in this historic setting is a profound culinary experience. We will be using fresh local ingredients that reflect the bounty of the summer season in Louisiana," said Executive Chef Justin Devillier of La Petite Grocery.
The festival opens on Saturday June 7th with a First Bite of the Fest, a public sharing of some of the first tomatoes of the season in a public "bite", followed by a "Ripe and Ready" Secondline through festival grounds. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, fourteen festival food booths featuring Creole tomato dishes will line French Market Place. Two live music stages will showcase 16 bands throughout the weekend, with The Abita Beer mainstage alongside the Flea Market at Barracks playing host to local bands like Billy Iuso & Friends, The Honeypots, Erica Falls and Kid Merv & All that Jazz.
Festival goers can catch a cooking demonstration on the Farmers Market stage every hour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and families can enjoy free kids activities in Dutch Alley, from miniature golf to a Playbuild temporary playground, music workshops, and interactive craft booths. Customers who spend $30 or more in any of the French Market District retail shops will receive a complimentary bag of Creole tomatoes.
